Regions, Exit IPs, and Persistent Connections
AI tool connection issues can occur at different layers. Regional availability depends on where a request enters the platform. IP risk checks consider an exit address's reputation, shared use, and traffic patterns. Persistent connections depend on the network path, client, and app staying connected after a request begins. These factors are not interchangeable. An exit region may be supported, yet trigger a login check; the homepage may load normally, while a connection drops during content generation.
Support for ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini can vary by product, account type, and service policy. Check the target platform's official guidance before choosing an exit region. A network subscription does not include a membership to the target tool or change its requirements for accounts, organizations, or billing regions. If you see a regional availability message, distinguish account eligibility from network routing rather than assuming every access issue is caused by bandwidth.
Chat responses often arrive as a continuous stream. Streaming output requires the network path, client, and app to keep the connection open. Switching exit routes, system sleep, network changes, or incomplete proxy rules can stop a response that has already started. For long conversations and coding tasks, keeping the same exit throughout a session is usually more useful than repeatedly searching for a route with a faster initial response.
This page covers route selection and troubleshooting, not a list of tools and their availability. Check route names, exit cities, and eligibility for the target platform separately.
Tool and Route Requirements
The table below highlights factors to consider for common use cases. These suggestions do not guarantee that a particular country or route type will work. Check official supported regions, your account status, and the specific task. Dedicated, relayed, and direct connections describe transport paths; they do not guarantee that a platform will trust the exit address.
| Tool | Common use | Route requirements to check | How to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Web chat and file interactions | Exit region supported; consistent routing for login and generation requests; stable streaming | Log in, then check whether the response streams continuously to completion |
| Claude | Long-form analysis and coding discussions | Region meets requirements; minimize exit changes during a session; complete upload path | Test a new conversation, content generation, and file upload separately |
| Gemini | Web assistants and collaboration across account ecosystems | Exit region matches product availability; account and organization permissions meet requirements | Check the web assistant and developer API separately for permissions and connectivity |
| Copilot | Web chat and editor completions | Identify the product; cover login domains and plugin requests; support sustained interaction | Test Microsoft Copilot and GitHub Copilot separately |
| Midjourney | Image generation and viewing results | Complete web or Discord access path; image assets load successfully | Check task submission, status updates, and image loading—not just the homepage |
| Cursor | Editor chat and code generation | Editor process is routed through the proxy; authentication and model requests have a complete path; streaming is stable | Test account login, editor chat, and code completion separately |
Copilot can refer to different products. The web assistant and code editor extensions may use separate accounts and service endpoints. Before troubleshooting, note the full product name, client, and failed action. A successful web session does not mean the editor extension is configured correctly.
Account Setup, Login, and Session Continuity
Before using a tool for the first time, check its official site for account eligibility, supported regions, and required permissions. Z8VPN requires no email address; create an account with a username and password. This applies only to Z8VPN accounts and does not mean ChatGPT, Claude, or other tools have the same account requirements. Manage each service's account details separately.
Registration and login often redirect to an external identity provider. If a page remains stuck on a callback screen, the identity domain may be missing from your proxy rules, the browser may be blocking required site data, or the exit route may have changed during the redirect. Identify the domain where the failure occurs, then check how that request is routed. Keep the same exit during login, and avoid changing browser settings and network rules at the same time.
If you encounter repeated verification prompts or a risk warning, stop retrying and follow the platform's official instructions. Shared exit IP reputation, account activity, and existing sessions may all factor into the decision; a single prompt does not prove that an account is restricted. Avoid shared credentials from unknown sources, and do not switch regions repeatedly in an attempt to evade platform security checks.
For enterprise or education accounts, check whether an administrator has enabled the feature. Organization policies, account age requirements, product licenses, and billing status are not network issues; changing the exit route cannot replace administrator approval. Keeping the error text and steps that led to it is more useful for troubleshooting than simply reporting that something does not work.
How Web Access Differs from API Access
Web apps typically rely on a browser login session, while APIs use separate credentials, permissions, and billing. Web membership and API access are not the same entitlement. Being able to chat on the website does not mean your developer account has API access; an API authentication error does not prove that your proxy is inactive.
A browser may use system proxy settings or extension rules, while SDK requests come from a local process, container, or remote server. So a browser and script on the same device may use different exit routes. Check which process actually sent the request and where it is running, rather than relying on the region shown in the browser.
API failures can also stem from authentication, quota, request formatting, model permissions, or transport issues. A readable server error usually means the request reached an endpoint; inspect the response before proceeding. Connection timeouts, certificate errors, and streams that end early call for checks of the local proxy, trusted certificates, and intermediate network path. Changing routes is not the answer to every error.
Streaming APIs are more likely than ordinary web pages to reveal an interrupted connection. The app must also read the stream correctly, handle cancellations and errors, and follow the official API guidance for retries. For requests that incur charges, confirm whether the task was accepted before retrying so that a slow response is not mistaken for a task that never ran.
Command Line, IDE, and CI Setup
Command Line: Check Which Settings the Process Inherits
Some command-line tools read HTTP_PROXY, HTTPS_PROXY, or ALL_PROXY; some SDKs require an explicitly configured proxy transport. Follow the documentation for your tool and version—do not assume environment variables work with every language runtime. Get the proxy address and port from your local client settings, and distinguish HTTP proxy from SOCKS proxy protocols.
Check whether NO_PROXY excludes the target service from the proxy. After updating the settings, restart your terminal or target process so it inherits the new environment. Test basic connectivity before running tasks involving private code or sensitive documents. Redact API credentials, session identifiers, and request bodies from logs.
IDE: A Local Window Does Not Mean Local Execution
Cursor and coding assistant extensions may send requests from different processes. Editor proxy settings, system proxy settings, and extension-specific configurations are not necessarily inherited from one another. With remote development, containers, or a remote extension host, requests may originate from the remote environment. A connected local browser does not prove that a remote extension uses the same exit route.
Test authentication, completions, chat, and resource downloads separately. If only one feature fails, check its endpoint and extension logs before changing routes. Disabling certificate verification is not a standard fix. For certificate errors, check the system clock, trusted certificates, and proxy policies on your organization's network.
CI: Check the Runner's Actual Network Boundary
CI jobs run in the runner's environment and do not inherit your development computer's network connection. First check the runner's permitted outbound connections, supported regions, and organizational security policies, then configure any required proxy. Inject environment variables through protected configuration, store credentials in the platform's secret manager, and never commit them to a repository or include them in build artifacts.
In your jobs, monitor network connectivity, API authentication, and content generation separately, and record sanitized error details. Do not assume that a route configured on a personal device can be transferred directly to a shared build environment. Confirm the usage scope and deployment method against the service terms and organizational requirements.
Common Errors and Troubleshooting Steps
The page loads, but nothing happens when you send a prompt?
Static pages and generation requests may use different routes. Check first for platform notices about maintenance, quotas, or account restrictions. Then check whether the generation request was established, whether the stream was interrupted, and whether client rules are missing any relevant domains. Keep the exit route unchanged and test in a new session; avoid changing multiple settings at once.
The region isn't supported, and switching cities makes no difference?
A city label alone does not determine how the platform identifies your region. Confirm that app traffic is actually using the selected route, then check the exit region, account eligibility, and the platform's official supported regions. Existing sessions and platform-side checks can also affect the result; switching routes is no guarantee that a regional restriction will go away.
The website works, but the SDK or editor times out?
Start by checking the SDK or editor process's network settings, including the proxy protocol, local client listener status, inherited environment variables, and remote execution environment. Do not assume that copying browser settings makes them take effect. Verify connectivity in the environment that actually sends the request.
The response stops halfway through. Do you need a different plan?
First distinguish platform output limits, account quotas, and network interruptions. Check client logs, system sleep, and network changes, then compare routes using the same task. Plan data allowances and whether a single response completes are separate measures; an interruption alone does not mean you need to upgrade.
Midjourney accepts the task, but the image is incomplete?
Task submission and image assets may use different domains. Check the web or Discord access route, image asset requests, and local rules separately. Keep the task status and confirm whether the image was generated before submitting the same task again just because the image has not loaded.
When contacting support, include the tool name, client or runtime environment, selected region, steps to reproduce the issue, and a redacted error message. For Z8VPN account and connection issues, contact support through a support ticket in the user dashboard. For account permissions and billing issues with a target tool, contact that platform. Do not include full credentials or an active subscription URL in a ticket.
Choose a Route for Your Use Case
For web chat, first confirm that the target tool supports your region. Then choose a stable exit route and keep it consistent throughout the session. Tokyo and Singapore may be options, but check the tool's official supported regions and test your specific use case. For longer streaming responses, start by comparing IEPL dedicated routes with relayed or direct connections under the same conditions. Route type alone does not guarantee availability.
Developers should first make routing clear across the command line, IDE, and remote environments, then compare route performance. Change one variable at a time and keep a record of errors and client settings to identify whether the cause is the exit route, app configuration, or account permissions. The number of available routes gives you options, but does not replace testing your specific task.
Choose billing based on how often you use the service. For regular use, compare monthly plans: ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB, and ¥28/month for 500GB. Data resets monthly on the activation date. For occasional use, compare data plans: ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB, and ¥658/3000GB. Data is used as needed and never expires. Data use per conversation is not fixed; file uploads, generated images, and code resources all affect actual usage.
Z8VPN supports Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux, with unlimited devices online at the same time, and offers a 14-day no-questions-asked refund. Network subscriptions and memberships or API charges for AI tools are billed separately; check the terms for both before paying.
